BMW to build new factory in Debrecen

The German car manufacturing company BMW, is building a new factory in Debrecen, announced Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The new factory will be situated in a 400-hectare area next to the city, where traditional and electric-powered cars will be produced by the most modern automotive manufacturing technologies on one production line. The factory will be able to produce 150,000 cars annually.
The value of the investment exceeds one billion euros and more than a thousand jobs will be created.
The company has been negotiating with the city for 14 months, since BMW has examined several European cities as a possible venue before they eventually decided to build the new factory in Debrecen.
According to BMW's announcement, Debrecen is an ideal venue to expand BMW Group's production capacity. It was primarily due to its excellent infrastructure, good logistics connections and the location of the existing supplier network. The skilled workforce of the region was also a significant advantage. In addition to the employees of the newly established factory, many other jobs will be created among suppliers and other service providers, both in the factory area and in the district of Debrecen.
